What Are Test Instruments?
Test instruments are specified by two things that are easy to confuse: what they can measure and what they can safely be connected to. A meter with an adequate voltage range but the wrong CAT rating is not merely unsuitable, it is a hazard on the circuit it was bought for.
ChatMRO indexes instruments with measurement ranges, accuracy, resolution, CAT safety rating, true RMS capability, logging and connectivity held as attributes. "True RMS clamp meter, 600 A, CAT IV 600 V" is therefore a safety specification as well as a functional one, and the catalogue treats it that way.
Calibration is part of the specification for most industrial instruments. Whether an instrument ships with a traceable certificate, what interval it needs and whether recalibration is supported are indexed with the product, since an uncalibrated instrument produces readings that cannot be relied upon or defended.

What CAT rating do I need?
It depends where in the installation you are working — CAT IV at the service entrance, CAT III on distribution, CAT II at outlets. Describe the work and ChatMRO filters accordingly.
Do instruments come with calibration certificates?
Many do, and traceable calibration can be quoted where a documented process requires it. Note the requirement in the RFQ.
Do I need true RMS?
If you measure anything downstream of a VFD, electronic ballast or switching supply, yes. An averaging meter reads significantly low on those waveforms.
Can you recommend a thermal camera for electrical inspection?
Describe the smallest target and the working distance and ChatMRO recommends a resolution and lens, since detector resolution rather than image size determines what you can measure.
Do you supply gas detection instruments?
Yes, both portable and fixed, indexed by the gases detected and by sensor type, along with the calibration gas and consumables they need.
