What Is a Stainless Steel Push Fit Pipe Fitting?

A push fit (push-to-connect) fitting joins pipe by inserting the tube end into the fitting body, where an internal stainless grip ring and an elastomeric O-ring seat against the tube OD to form a mechanical, pressure-tight joint without soldering, threading or specialized crimp tools. The 304 or 316 stainless body resists corrosion in potable water, and many designs allow the joint to be disassembled with a release tool and reused.

Compatibility depends on tube OD matching the fitting's rated size and on the tube material being one the fitting's grip ring and O-ring are designed for — most push fit fittings accept copper, CPVC, PEX and stainless tube interchangeably at a given nominal size, but manufacturers specify an insertion depth and require the tube end be cut square and deburred for the O-ring to seal reliably.
