What Is a Solenoid Valve Manifold Accessorie?
A solenoid valve manifold is a common air-supply and exhaust body onto which individual valve stations are mounted, letting one supply line feed many actuators without piping each valve separately. The accessories around it — sub-bases, blanking plates, end plates and expansion kits — determine how many stations the manifold can carry, how unused stations are sealed off, and how the assembly is capped, supplied and exhausted at each end.
Manifolds are built to a specific series and standard, most commonly ISO 15407-2 (formerly ISO 5599-2) for standardized valve interfaces, or a manufacturer's proprietary footprint such as SMC's EX250/SY series or Festo's VTUG/CPE lines. Sub-bases and blanking plates from a different series will not bolt up or seal correctly even when nominal port sizes match, because the porting pattern, o-ring grooves and mounting bolt spacing are series-specific.

| Spec | What It Means | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Manifold Standard | ISO 15407-2, ISO 5599-2, or OEM proprietary series | Sub-bases, plates and valves must all be from the same series to seal and bolt up correctly |
| Station Count | Number of valve positions the manifold body supports | Expansion bases let a manifold be extended after initial build-out without replacing the whole unit |
| Port Size | NPT, BSPP, or push-to-connect fitting size at supply/exhaust | Undersized ports restrict flow and slow actuator cycle time under load |
| Blanking Plate | Seals an unused station to maintain manifold pressure integrity | Prevents air loss through an empty station without needing a filler valve |
| Seal Material | NBR, FKM/Viton o-rings and gaskets between stations | FKM is required for high-temperature or chemically aggressive plant air |

Applications
Where Solenoid Valve Manifold Accessories Get Used
Manifold accessories are specified anywhere multiple pneumatic actuators are grouped onto one common air supply rather than piped individually.
Packaging & Palletizing Automation
Multi-station manifolds driving pick-and-place cylinders and pneumatic grippers on high-speed packaging lines.
Automotive Assembly
Centralized valve banks controlling clamp and weld-fixture cylinders across a single robotic work cell.
Food & Beverage Processing
FKM-sealed manifolds specified for washdown areas where seal chemical resistance and corrosion-resistant plating matter.
Material Handling & Conveyance
Expansion-base manifolds scaled up as conveyor diverter and stop-gate stations are added to a line.
Process Skid & OEM Machine Building
Manifold sub-bases and end plates specified to a fixed ISO footprint so OEM machine builders can source valves from multiple brands.

FAQ
Solenoid Valve Manifold Accessories Questions, Answered
Can I mix sub-bases from different manufacturers on one manifold?
Only if both are built to the same open standard, such as ISO 15407-2, and even then dimensions like o-ring groove depth and bolt spacing can vary enough between vendors to cause leaks. For proprietary series like SMC EX250 or Festo CPE, sub-bases and end plates should come from the same manufacturer as the valves.
What does a blanking plate do and when do I need one?
A blanking plate seals off an unused valve station on a manifold so supply air isn't lost through the empty slot, letting you build a manifold larger than your current valve count and add stations later without replacing the base.
How do I size an end plate for my manifold?
End plates cap the ends of the manifold and typically house the main supply and exhaust ports, and sometimes a pressure gauge port or electrical connector block. Match the end plate's port size and thread type to your supply line and confirm whether you need single or dual electrical connection at the end.
What's the difference between a sub-base and an expansion base?
A sub-base is the individual mounting block for one valve station; an expansion base (or expansion kit) adds additional stations to an already-assembled manifold, letting you grow station count without disassembling the working line.
Do I need FKM seals or is NBR sufficient?
NBR handles standard shop air and moderate temperatures adequately and costs less. FKM (Viton) is specified where the manifold is exposed to higher temperatures, oils, or washdown chemicals, such as in food processing or automotive paint booth equipment.
