What Is a Traffic Door?
A traffic door is a flexible, impact-resistant swinging door installed in high-traffic openings between warehouse zones, allowing forklifts and pedestrians to pass through without stopping to operate a rigid door, while still providing a physical and thermal barrier between spaces. The door panel swings open on impact and self-closes, using its material flexibility rather than a rigid hinge mechanism to absorb repeated contact without damage.
Panel material and construction are selected for the traffic and temperature conditions: standard polyethylene panels handle general warehouse forklift and foot traffic, while insulated or multi-layer panels are specified for cold storage and freezer applications where minimizing air infiltration and thermal loss between zones matters as much as physical passage. Double-panel doors provide two swinging leaves that overlap at the center, giving a tighter seal than a single panel door but requiring more clearance and a wider opening.

What's the difference between a single and double panel traffic door?
A single panel door uses one swinging leaf covering the full opening width, requiring less clearance and lower cost. A double panel (bi-parting) door uses two leaves that overlap at the center, giving a tighter seal against drafts and light but requiring a wider opening and more total clearance for both panels to swing.
Do I need an insulated panel for my application?
Insulated or multi-layer panels are specified for cold storage, freezer, and other applications where minimizing thermal transfer and air infiltration between zones matters. For general warehouse traffic between ambient-temperature zones, a standard non-insulated polyethylene panel is adequate and less expensive.
How is a traffic door sized to my opening?
Measure the actual doorway width and height, then select a door sized to that opening with appropriate panel overlap margin — traffic doors are available in standard sizes for common openings (4 to 12 ft.) with custom sizing available for nonstandard doorways.
Why do some traffic doors have clear window sections?

How long do traffic door panels last under heavy forklift traffic?
