What Is a Stack Rack?
A stack rack is a rigid or collapsible steel frame, typically welded wire mesh or tube, that sits on a standard pallet footprint and allows loaded units to be stacked several units high without crushing the load beneath. Rigid racks stay assembled and stack empty racks on top of loaded ones column-style, while nestable racks collapse or telescope down to roughly a fifth of their erected height for return shipping or storage when empty.
Capacity is rated both per-unit (the load one rack can carry) and stacked (how many loaded racks can be safely stacked on top of each other, which is usually lower due to compounding load and frame buckling risk). Post racks use four removable corner posts rather than a full frame, giving open sides for forklift or crane access from any direction, common for engine blocks, castings and other irregular industrial parts.

What's the difference between a nestable and a collapsible stack rack?
A nestable rack's frame telescopes or folds down so that empty racks slide inside one another for compact storage or return shipping. A collapsible (foldable) rack folds flat but doesn't necessarily nest inside another unit — both reduce empty-rack volume, but nestable racks generally stack more densely.
How is stacked load capacity different from per-unit capacity?
Per-unit capacity is how much a single rack can carry on its own. Stacked capacity accounts for the compounding weight of multiple loaded racks stacked on top of each other and the frame's ability to resist buckling under that combined load — it's typically lower than simply multiplying per-unit capacity by the stack height, so always check the manufacturer's stacked rating.
What is a post stacking rack used for?
A post rack uses four removable corner posts on a base rather than full sidewalls, leaving the load open on all sides for forklift, crane, or hand access. It's common for irregular industrial parts like engine blocks, castings and coils that don't fit neatly inside a walled rack.
