What Is a Concrete Edgers and Groover?
An edger rounds the outer perimeter of a concrete slab where it meets a form board, producing a durable, chip-resistant radius edge instead of a sharp, brittle corner that would otherwise be the first place a slab chips or spalls under impact. A groover cuts a straight, uniform control joint into the slab surface at a specified depth and spacing, creating a deliberate weak point where the concrete is intended to crack as it shrinks during curing — directing cracking to a controlled, inconspicuous line rather than letting it occur randomly across the visible slab surface.
Both tools must be used at the correct point in the concrete's set — too early and the tool leaves a rough, unstable impression or drags aggregate; too late and the surface is too hard to tool cleanly.
