What Is a Temp Humidity Pressure Transmitter Acc?
Temperature, humidity and pressure transmitter accessories are the mounting, protective and connection hardware that lets a sensing transmitter be correctly installed and maintained in its target environment — duct mount kits and wall enclosures for building automation, sintered or membrane filters that protect humidity sensing elements from dust and moisture while allowing vapor exchange, and weatherproof sunshields for outdoor installations exposed to solar radiation.
Accessory selection is driven by the transmitter's connection standard (process fitting thread, cable gland size, terminal block type), the installation environment (indoor/outdoor, duct, immersion, or ambient), and the sensor's protection requirements — a humidity sensor left unfiltered in a dusty duct will drift out of calibration far faster than one behind an appropriate sintered filter. Calibration accessories (reference chambers, salt solutions, calibration adapters) support periodic verification against a known reference.

| Spec | What It Means | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Mounting Type | Duct mount, wall mount, immersion, outdoor post mount | Must match the installation location and the transmitter's physical mounting interface |
| Filter/Cap Type | Sintered metal, PTFE membrane, perforated cap | Protects the sensing element from dust/moisture while allowing accurate ambient exchange |
| Process Connection | NPT/BSPP thread, compression fitting, flange | Must match the transmitter's process connection and the system's pressure rating |
| Cable Gland / Entry | Sized to cable OD, with IP-rated seal | Maintains the enclosure's ingress protection rating at the cable entry point |
| Environmental Rating | IP65/IP66/IP67, NEMA 4X equivalents | Determines suitability for washdown, outdoor or dusty industrial environments |

FAQ
Temp Humidity Pressure Transmitter Acc Questions, Answered
Why does a humidity transmitter need a filter or protective cap?
The sensing element in a humidity transmitter needs to exchange moisture with the surrounding air to take an accurate reading, but is vulnerable to contamination from dust, oils and liquid water. A sintered metal or PTFE membrane filter physically blocks particulates and liquid while still allowing vapor to pass, protecting accuracy and sensor life without blocking the measurement.
What does the IP rating on an enclosure actually tell me?
The IP (Ingress Protection) rating has two digits — the first for solid particle protection (dust) and the second for liquid ingress. IP65 means fully dust-tight with protection against low-pressure water jets, while IP67 adds protection against temporary immersion. Match the rating to the installation environment — a washdown area needs at minimum IP65, and outdoor exposure to rain needs equivalent protection to IP65/66.
Do I need a sunshield for an outdoor temperature sensor even if it's already in an enclosure?
Yes, if the enclosure itself is exposed to direct sunlight — solar radiation heats the enclosure surface and can bias the internal reading several degrees above actual ambient temperature. A dedicated sunshield (typically a multi-plate radiation shield) allows airflow around the sensor while blocking direct and reflected solar radiation, which a sealed weatherproof enclosure alone doesn't address.
Can I use any cable gland with any transmitter enclosure?
The gland must be sized to the cable's outer diameter for its seal to compress correctly, and its thread must match the enclosure's cable entry port (commonly M20, M16 or 1/2 NPT). Using an oversized or mismatched gland compromises the enclosure's IP rating even if the enclosure itself is rated higher.
How often do these transmitters need recalibration, and what accessories support that?
Calibration intervals depend on the application's accuracy requirements and the sensor's drift characteristics, but many industrial humidity and pressure transmitters are checked annually or per an internal quality program. Calibration accessories like salt-solution reference chambers (for humidity) or a calibrated pressure source (for pressure transmitters) let technicians verify readings against a known reference without removing the transmitter from service permanently.
