What Is a Hang and Stack Bin?
Hang bins (louvered bins) hook onto louvered wall panels or rail systems and are designed for quick removal, relocation and visual scanning of contents from a wall-mounted storage array — common in tool cribs, parts rooms and light assembly. Stacking bins instead sit on a shelf or the floor and interlock front-to-back or side-to-side, allowing multiple bins to be stacked into a stable column that maximizes vertical storage density without a separate shelving structure.
Bin sizing follows manufacturer-specific series (width, depth and height increments), and mixing bins from different manufacturers on the same rail or panel system is often impossible since hook spacing and stacking lug geometry vary by brand. Hopper-front stacking bins add an angled open face that makes small parts easier to see and retrieve without tipping the bin, while standard stacking bins have a straight front better suited to bulkier or less frequently accessed items.

| Spec | What It Means | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Bin System | Louvered hang bin, interlocking stacking bin | Hang bins suit wall panel storage; stacking bins suit shelf or floor storage |
| Size Series | Manufacturer-specific width/depth/height increments | Bins from different brands rarely mix on the same rail or interlock reliably |
| Front Style | Straight front vs. hopper (angled) front | Hopper fronts improve small-parts visibility and retrieval without tipping |
| Material | Polypropylene, polystyrene | Affects impact resistance, chemical resistance and cost |
| Mounting/Stacking Compatibility | Rail hook spacing, stacking lug fit | Must match the specific panel/rail system or stacking series in use |

FAQ
Hang and Stack Bins Questions, Answered
What's the difference between hang bins and stacking bins?
Hang (louvered) bins have hooks on the back that engage a louvered wall panel or rail system, making them easy to add, remove or relocate on a vertical wall display. Stacking bins sit on a shelf or the floor and interlock with the bins above and below them, building a stable column — they don't require a wall panel system at all.
Can I mix bin brands on the same rail system?
Generally no — hook spacing on louvered bins and stacking lug geometry on stacking bins are manufacturer and series specific, so a bin from one brand typically won't hang securely or stack reliably with another brand's panel or bin series. Stick to one manufacturer's system when standardizing a storage area.
When should I choose a hopper-front bin over a standard stacking bin?
Hopper-front (angled face) bins make it much easier to see and grab small parts without tipping the bin toward you, which is valuable for frequently accessed fasteners and small hardware. Standard straight-front stacking bins work fine for bulkier items or less frequently accessed stock where quick visual scanning matters less.
How much weight can stacking bins hold when stacked several high?
Load capacity depends on the specific bin's construction and the manufacturer's rated stacking height, which varies by bin size and material — heavier contents in lower bins in a stack help stability, and manufacturers typically publish a maximum recommended stack height for a given bin series. Check the specific product's load rating rather than assuming all stacking bins in a size range perform the same.
Do I need a panel or rail system to use louvered hang bins?
Yes — louvered hang bins require a compatible louvered panel or rail mounted to a wall, workbench or cabinet to hook onto; they can't be used freestanding. If you don't already have a panel system installed, factor that into your order alongside the bins themselves.
