What Is a Fan and Limit Control?
A fan and limit control is a temperature-actuated switch mounted in a furnace's plenum that performs two safety and comfort functions in one device: it turns the blower fan on once the heat exchanger reaches a set temperature (so cold air isn't blown into the space at startup) and turns it off once the plenum cools after burner shutoff, while a separate high-limit function shuts down the burner entirely if plenum temperature rises above a safe threshold, preventing overheating and heat exchanger damage.
