The Martin Tools 132G is a boiler pick, also called a scaling hammer: a special-purpose hammer designed for chipping welds, scale, rust, and similar buildup from unhardened metal. Martin makes its scaling hammers from drop-forged high carbon steel that is heat treated, quenched, and tempered, with a burnt lacquer finish and a grade B (or better) "second growth" hickory handle.
Welders, fabricators, and metalworkers use scaling hammers to help clean welds, often alongside other metalworking tools. The 132G's 1 lb head and 14" overall length make it a compact tool for chipping work, and its hickory handle is a replaceable wear item. Because it is meant for unhardened metal, it should not be used on hardened surfaces. Martin Tools products carry a limited lifetime warranty, which does not cover abuse.
Common configuration: 1 lb head weight, 14" overall length, a head 5-9/16" long, a face 1-1/32" long with a 1/16" radius, a drop-forged steel head with a burnt lacquer (industrial black) finish, and a wood (hickory) handle. One distributor lists the overall tool weight at about 1.4 lb, which includes the handle. The replacement handle is listed as the HH59. The hammer is made in the USA, is manufactured by Martin Sprocket & Gear, and carries UPC 697950142456.
