What Is a Panel Indicator Light?
A panel indicator light (pilot light) is a small illuminated device mounted through a hole in a control panel face to give a visual signal of equipment status — power on, fault, running, ready — without the operator needing to open the enclosure. Modern indicators are almost universally LED-based rather than incandescent, offering longer service life and lower current draw, but incandescent replacement bulbs remain available for legacy panel fixtures still in service.
Two specifications must be confirmed before ordering: mounting hole diameter (22mm and 16mm are the most common industrial standards, with 30mm used on older or heavier-duty panels) which must match the panel's existing cutout exactly since indicators are not commonly field-adjustable for hole size, and supply voltage, which must match the panel's control voltage directly or be paired with a transformer/resistor module — an indicator rated for the wrong voltage will either fail to illuminate or burn out immediately.
