What Is a Lifeline Accessorie?

Lifeline accessories are the hardware components that make up a horizontal or vertical lifeline fall arrest system — a continuous line, either synthetic rope or steel cable, that a worker's fall arrest equipment attaches to via a mobile rope grab, allowing movement along the line while remaining protected. A rope grab travels freely along the lifeline during normal movement but locks instantly under the sudden load of a fall.

Every component in a lifeline system must be rated as a matched, certified system — anchors, tensioners, rope grabs and the lifeline material itself must meet applicable fall protection standards (ANSI Z359 in the US) both individually and as an assembled system, since mixing uncertified or mismatched components can silently reduce the system's actual arrest capacity below what any single component's rating suggests.
