About EZ Red
E-Z Red Co. is a family-held corporation founded in 1966 by Walter R. "Tommy" Tucker, who had worked as an independent wagon jobber in upstate New York since 1955. In 1965 he purchased a newly designed antifreeze and battery hydrometer from a retired Canadian chemical engineer, a temperature-compensating, virtually unbreakable design that was easy to read, which gave the company its name: EaZy to REaD became E-Z Red.
The business stayed in the Tucker family across generations, with son Mark Tucker joining in 1975 and grandson Luke Tucker coming on board in 2001, before Bob Cacciabeve joined as an equity partner and executive vice president in 2011. Over that time EZRED grew from its hydrometer origins into a broader specialty hand tool, tool organization, and LED lighting brand serving professional and consumer markets worldwide.
In 2012, Caterpillar selected EZRED as its only global licensee for CAT-branded LED flashlights and work lights, reflecting the brand's shift toward lighting products alongside its original specialty tools. In 2025, Rainier Partners' portfolio company Wilmar, LLC acquired EZRED, adding it to a broader automotive tool and equipment platform while the brand continues designing and distributing tools for the automotive aftermarket.
