About Bulbrite

About Bulbrite

Bulbrite was founded in 1971 by Andrew Choi, a Korean immigrant who built the business out of his Manhattan apartment selling Christmas and decorative bulbs before expanding into general-purpose lighting. Choi grew the company by personally calling on stores along the Bowery, Manhattan's lighting district, and sourcing halogen bulbs through contacts in Japan and Korea as that technology gained popularity.

After leading Bulbrite for 38 years, Andrew Choi stepped down in 2009 and his daughter, Cathy Choi, took over as President and CEO. Under her leadership the company launched an in-house lighting lab in 2010 to support product development and quality testing as the industry shifted toward LED technology.

Now based in Moonachie, New Jersey, Bulbrite remains a family-owned lighting company offering LEDs, incandescents, halogens, CFLs, and specialty decorative bulbs. On ChatMRO, facilities and electrical buyers can search by base type, wattage equivalent, or color temperature to quickly match a replacement bulb or a new fixture spec.

Frequently asked questions

What lighting technologies does Bulbrite offer?

Bulbrite manufactures and distributes LED, halogen, incandescent, and CFL bulbs along with specialty decorative lamps, giving buyers options across both legacy and current lighting technologies. Its in-house lighting lab, launched in 2010, focuses primarily on expanding and testing the LED product line.

How do I match an LED bulb to an old incandescent fixture?

Bulbrite's LED replacement bulbs are typically labeled with a wattage-equivalent rating, so a "60-watt equivalent" LED is designed to produce similar brightness to a 60-watt incandescent while using far less energy. Matching the base type, such as E26 or E12, and confirming dimmer compatibility if needed will ensure the replacement fits your existing fixture.

Does Bulbrite make dimmable LED bulbs?

Yes, Bulbrite offers dimmable LED options across many of its product lines, though compatibility depends on using the correct dimmer switch for LED loads rather than an older incandescent-rated dimmer. Checking the specific product listing for dimmer compatibility is recommended before installation.

What color temperatures does Bulbrite offer for LED bulbs?

Bulbrite's LED bulbs span the common range from warm white around 2700-3000K, suited to residential and hospitality settings, up to daylight tones around 5000K often used in task lighting or commercial spaces. Choosing the right color temperature depends on whether the space calls for a cozy atmosphere or bright, neutral illumination.

Does Bulbrite supply bulbs for commercial and facilities use, not just residential?

Yes, Bulbrite's catalog includes commercial-grade LED and halogen products suited to facilities maintenance, hospitality, and retail lighting retrofits in addition to residential decorative lamps. Facilities teams often source in bulk through ChatMRO when standardizing a building's lighting across multiple fixture types.
