About Spicer
About Spicer
Spicer traces its origins to engineer and inventor Clarence W. Spicer, who began manufacturing universal joints in Plainfield, New Jersey around 1904. He formally founded the Spicer Universal Joint Manufacturing Company in May 1905, renaming it Spicer Manufacturing Company in 1909 as the product line expanded beyond the original universal joint.
Attorney Charles Dana later purchased a controlling interest in Spicer Manufacturing and became its president and treasurer; in recognition of his 32 years of leadership, the company was eventually renamed Dana Corporation, with Spicer continuing on as the brand name for its driveline products. The Spicer Driveshaft Division went on to develop the industry's first all-aluminum driveshaft and won the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award for manufacturing excellence.
Today Dana Incorporated continues to manufacture Spicer-branded driveshafts, universal joints, and axle components used across trucks, agricultural equipment, and industrial machinery worldwide. ChatMRO lists Spicer driveshafts and U-joints sorted by series and vehicle application so fleet and equipment maintenance teams can find the correct replacement component.
