About Fluke

About Fluke

Fluke Corporation was founded in June 1948 by John Fluke as the John Fluke Engineering Company, Inc., starting from a basement workshop in Springfield, Connecticut, where Fluke pioneered a highly accurate benchtop power meter first sold to General Electric. In November 1952, the company moved to Seattle, Washington and reincorporated as John Fluke Manufacturing Co., Inc., establishing the Pacific Northwest base the brand still maintains today.

Fluke raised outside capital through an OTC listing in 1959, moved to the American Stock Exchange in 1967, and re-listed on the NYSE in 1980. Through the 1960s and 1970s, the company expanded its test instrument lineup with clamp-on meters that let technicians measure current without breaking a circuit, followed by the first digital multimeter, and later the 77 series multimeter that became a standard tool for electricians and industrial technicians.

In 1993, Fluke purchased the Test and Measurement subsidiary of Philips and rebranded its PM series of instruments under the Fluke name, expanding its product breadth significantly. Danaher Corporation acquired Fluke in 1998, and in 2016 Danaher formed Fortive, making Fluke part of a group of industrial technology companies; the brand continues manufacturing from Everett, Washington, offering multimeters, thermal imagers, power quality analyzers, calibrators, and oscilloscopes.
