About Comeaux Caps
About Comeaux Caps
Comeaux Caps was founded in 1973 by Edward "Sandy" Comeaux, a workwear sales rep in Louisiana who began researching welders' needs after hearing that quality welding caps were always in short supply. He spent nearly a year seeking out welders and testing prototypes before settling on a signature design with a deeper crown than anything else available at the time.
The soft-brimmed, all-cotton, reversible caps were originally sewn by women working from home near the company's base in St. Amant, Louisiana, with textiles sourced from North Carolina. By the mid-1980s, Comeaux Caps had become the most dominant welding cap brand in America, selling throughout the South and beyond through a growing network of road reps.
Today Comeaux Caps remains a family-owned and operated sewing factory in St. Amant with about 15 employees, shipping more than 12,000 dozen welder's caps a month during peak season. On ChatMRO, safety and procurement buyers can search by cap size, fabric, or pattern to find the right Comeaux Caps product for a welding crew.

Frequently asked questions
What makes Comeaux Caps' welding caps different from generic caps?
Comeaux Caps are designed with a deeper crown than most welding caps on the market, a feature founder Sandy Comeaux developed after nearly a year of testing prototypes with real welders. The reversible, all-cotton construction also lets a worker flip the cap for extra wear between washes.
Are Comeaux Caps still made in the USA?
Yes, Comeaux Caps has manufactured its products at its St. Amant, Louisiana facility for decades, sourcing textiles domestically and maintaining in-house sewing operations. The company remains family-owned and operated to this day.
What sizes do Comeaux Caps welding caps come in?
Comeaux Caps are offered in a range of standard hat sizes to fit most adult head circumferences, typically labeled using numeric hat sizing. Specifying your usual hat size when ordering helps ensure a proper fit under a welding helmet.
Can Comeaux Caps be worn comfortably under a welding helmet?
Yes, Comeaux Caps' all-cotton reversible design is specifically built to be worn under welding helmets, protecting the scalp and hair from sparks and heat while remaining breathable during long shifts. The soft brim style is intended to sit comfortably without bulk under helmet padding.
Does Comeaux Caps offer other flame-resistant apparel besides caps?
Yes, in addition to its core welding cap line, Comeaux Caps offers flame-resistant apparel designed for welders and other workers exposed to heat and sparks. Buyers outfitting a full welding crew can source both caps and FR apparel from the same brand.
