About Century Spring
Made-in-USA Springs & Custom Spring Solutions
Century Spring Corp. is a leading manufacturer of springs and spring-related products, operating since 1927 with a commitment to supplying the world's largest selection of stock springs and rapid custom spring solutions. The company maintains over 55 million springs in inventory at USA-based warehouses, ready to ship same-day to virtually any location worldwide, with expertise spanning compression springs, extension springs, torsion springs, disc/Belleville springs, drawbar springs, and specialty configurations.
Century's product portfolio includes compression springs from 0.015" to 3" wire diameter in music wire, stainless steel (201, 301, 304, 316), beryllium copper, and various alloys; extension springs with open and closed loops; torsion springs with rotating hooks or legs; Belleville/disc springs for high-force compact applications; and custom-wound springs engineered to exact load curves and cycle-life requirements.
All springs are manufactured to ASTM B593 (music wire), ASTM A313/A314 (stainless steel), and other relevant standards. Century offers free spring design consultation, fatigue analysis, and cycle-life testing to ensure custom designs meet performance and reliability requirements. The company serves industries including automotive, aerospace, appliance, medical devices, industrial automation, and consumer electronics.
With over 40,000 active spring designs and proprietary database tools, Century can quickly identify stock springs matching most OEM requirements, dramatically reducing lead times compared to custom-only competitors. When exact specs require custom design, their engineers deliver prototypes within days.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between music wire and stainless steel springs?
Music wire (ASTM B593) is high-carbon steel offering maximum strength and corrosion resistance only in dry indoor environments—used in automotive, appliances, and most general industrial springs. Stainless steel (301, 304, 316) resists rust and corrosion, critical for marine, chemical, and outdoor environments but is softer than music wire, limiting strength for equivalent size. Choose music wire for strength/cost; stainless for corrosion resistance.
How do I calculate the correct spring constant (load rate) for my application?
Spring constant is measured as force per unit deflection (pounds per inch or Newtons per millimeter). Divide your required load change by the desired displacement distance. For example, if you need 100 lbs of force over 2 inches of travel, you need a 50 lb/inch spring constant. Century's engineers can refine this with application details to optimize performance.
Can I use a compression spring where the design calls for a disc spring?
No—they serve different purposes. Compression springs store energy over distance; disc/Belleville springs generate large force in minimal space with very slight deflection. In applications requiring high preload (stack strength) in confined areas like bearing preload or pressure-relief cartridges, only disc springs work correctly. Using compression springs will cause excessive deflection and poor performance.
How does wire diameter affect spring strength and lifespan?
Thicker wire (larger diameter) produces stiffer springs with higher strength but reduced cycle life (thicker material concentrates stress). Thinner wire produces softer springs with better fatigue life but lower maximum force. For repetitive cycling applications (100K+ cycles), Century recommends slightly larger wire diameter at slightly lower strength to maximize reliability.
What's Century's lead time for custom springs if stock doesn't have my exact specs?
Stock springs ship same-day; custom springs typically ship within 5–10 business days depending on complexity. Rush expedited service is available (24–48 hours) at a premium. Century's quote always specifies lead time. For critical applications, check availability early—the most common sizes ship faster than unusual diameters or wire gauges.
