About Bully Tools

About Bully Tools

Bully Tools was founded in 1994 by Mark Gracy, a former Pittsburgh building inspector who invested his own savings to start the company in a 1,500-square-foot space with a single product, a shingle remover, and no prior manufacturing background. The company grew steadily by focusing on heavy-gauge steel construction and US-based manufacturing at a time when much of the tool industry was moving production overseas.

In 2006, Bully Tools moved to a larger, modern plant in Steubenville, Ohio, where it now produces more than 100 lawn-and-garden, snow, and specialty tools entirely in-house. The facility handles robotic welding, metal forming and stamping, plasma cutting, heat treating, tempering, injection molding, and powder coating under one roof.

Bully Tools has become known in "Made in the USA" circles as one of the only companies to build a complete line of forged garden and specialty tools domestically, rather than one or two individual products. On ChatMRO, facilities and landscaping buyers can search by tool type, gauge, or handle material to find the right shovel or rake for their crew.

Frequently asked questions

What makes Bully Tools different from other shovel brands?

Bully Tools manufactures its entire line of shovels, rakes, and specialty tools at a single Steubenville, Ohio facility, handling welding, metal forming, heat treating, and powder coating in-house rather than outsourcing production. This vertical integration lets the company maintain the heavier steel gauges the brand is known for compared to many imported alternatives.

What does the gauge number on a Bully Tools shovel mean?

The gauge number refers to the thickness of the steel blade, with a lower gauge number indicating thicker, more durable steel suited to heavy-duty or rocky digging conditions. Bully Tools commonly offers 12-gauge and 14-gauge options, letting buyers choose based on expected job severity.

Does Bully Tools offer fiberglass and hardwood handle options?

Yes, most Bully Tools shovels and garden tools are available with either fiberglass or hardwood handles, giving buyers a choice between fiberglass's impact resistance and hardwood's traditional feel. Fiberglass handles are often preferred for heavy commercial or municipal use due to their resistance to splintering.

Are Bully Tools products actually made in the USA?

Yes, Bully Tools states that all of its products and materials are made in the USA and assembled at its Steubenville, Ohio plant, a point the company has built its brand identity around. This domestic manufacturing focus is frequently cited in "Buy American" campaigns and sourcing guides.

Does Bully Tools make products beyond shovels, like snow or forestry tools?

Yes, in addition to its original shingle remover and shovel lines, Bully Tools manufactures snow tools, forestry tools, floor scrapers, and other specialty lawn and garden equipment. The company has expanded its Steubenville facility multiple times to keep pace with demand across these categories.
