About Acopian

Acopian Power Supplies

Acopian Technical Company was founded by Sarkis Acopian, an immigrant who arrived in the United States in the mid-1940s and graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, in 1951 with a mechanical engineering degree. After working at Weller Electric Corp., where he designed a power sander and soldering gun, Acopian struck out on his own in 1957 by building the first solar-powered radio — a product marketed as needing no batteries or outside electrical plugs.

That solar radio project led him into the power supply business. After moving the company to Spruce Street in Easton in 1958, Acopian found himself unable to source a power supply for a later project, so he designed his own and recognized that other engineers faced the same gap. By 1960, Acopian Technical Company was manufacturing low-cost, plug-in regulated power supplies using vacuum tube technology.

The company has operated continuously from Easton, Pennsylvania ever since, earning ISO 9001:2008 certification and supplying NASA since 1969. Today's catalog covers AC-DC and DC-DC power supplies, redundant power packages, and a range of mounting configurations for industrial, laboratory, and aerospace electronics. ChatMRO helps engineers match voltage, current, and mounting specifications against the Acopian catalog, and our team supports RFQ submissions for prototype quantities or production-volume orders.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between Acopian's AC-DC and DC-DC power supplies?

AC-DC power supplies convert incoming line voltage (such as 120V or 240V AC) to a regulated DC output, while DC-DC converters take an existing DC input and step it up or down to a different DC voltage. Which one you need depends on whether your system's input power source is AC mains or an existing DC bus.

Does Acopian offer redundant power supply configurations?

Yes — redundant power packages are part of the current product line, designed so that if one power supply module fails, a backup unit continues supplying power without interrupting the connected equipment. These are commonly specified for critical industrial, laboratory, or aerospace systems where downtime isn't acceptable.

Is Acopian still based in Easton, Pennsylvania?

Yes — the company has operated from Easton, Pennsylvania since founder Sarkis Acopian moved operations to Spruce Street in 1958, and it remains ISO 9001:2008 certified at that same general location. This long operational continuity is part of why the brand is trusted for legacy equipment replacement power supplies.

Has Acopian historically supplied aerospace or government applications?

Yes — Acopian has been a NASA supplier since 1969, reflecting a long track record in high-reliability power supply applications beyond standard industrial use. If your application has aerospace-grade reliability requirements, confirm current certifications directly with our team.

How do I find the right Acopian power supply without an exact model number?

Describe the required voltage, current rating, and whether you need an AC-DC or DC-DC configuration, and ChatMRO's AI will match it against the indexed Acopian catalog. This is especially useful when replacing a power supply in older equipment where the original model number has worn off the label.
