About AAF Flanders
AAF Flanders Air Filtration Products
AAF traces its roots to 1921, when engineer Bill Reed developed a dust-removal filter for his own automotive paint shop and founded Reed Air Filter, which later merged with seven other filter makers to form American Air Filter Company. Flanders Corporation was founded separately in 1950 in Washington, North Carolina, building its own filtration business for residential and commercial HVAC before the two companies combined as AAF Flanders in April 2016.
Across nearly a century of filtration engineering, AAF introduced several industry firsts: the first high-efficiency box-type filter in 1935, the Roll-O-Mat self-renewable media filter in 1953, and the AstroCel HEPA filter in 1964 — technology NASA trusted for the Apollo 11 lunar module. Today AAF Flanders is the world's largest manufacturer of air filtration solutions, producing across 22 countries on four continents.
The product range spans EZ-Flow and NaturalAire residential and light-commercial filters, PREpleat pleated panel filters, VariCel high-capacity rigid-cell filters, and DriPak bag filters, covering particulate and gaseous contamination control for HVAC, cleanroom, semiconductor, transportation, and nuclear power applications. ChatMRO helps procurement teams match the right MERV rating, dimensions, and media type against existing housings without digging through catalog PDFs — our team also supports RFQ submissions and bulk or recurring filter-change orders.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between AAF Flanders' EZ-Flow and PREpleat filter lines?
EZ-Flow filters are typically lower-cost panel or pad filters aimed at general residential and light-commercial pre-filtration, while PREpleat filters use a pleated media design that increases surface area for higher dust-holding capacity and longer service life. The right choice depends on your MERV rating target and how often you're willing to change filters.
Can AAF Flanders supply HEPA-rated filtration for cleanroom or critical environments?
Yes — the AstroCel HEPA line, originally developed in 1964 and still used in cleanroom, semiconductor, and nuclear power applications, is rated for high-efficiency particulate capture. Confirm your required efficiency class and frame style with our team since cleanroom installations often need specific gasket or frame configurations.
What does VariCel filtration offer over a standard pleated filter?
VariCel is AAF Flanders' rigid-cell, high-capacity filter line designed for commercial and industrial HVAC systems that need higher airflow with lower pressure drop than a standard pleated filter. It's commonly specified where energy efficiency and extended service intervals matter more than upfront filter cost.
Does AAF Flanders make filters for both residential and industrial systems?
Yes — the NaturalAire and EZ-Flow lines serve residential and light-commercial HVAC, while VariCel, PREpleat, and DriPak bag filters are built for larger commercial, industrial, and cleanroom systems. Matching the right line to your housing dimensions and airflow requirements is where ChatMRO's search helps most.
How do I find the right AAF Flanders filter without an exact part number?
Describe your filter's dimensions, MERV rating, and the system it's installed in (HVAC, cleanroom, or industrial process), and ChatMRO's AI will match it against the indexed AAF Flanders catalog. This is especially useful when replacing filters in older equipment where the original part number isn't readily available.
